Getting notarized

A little clarity before you get started.

What is remote online notarization?

You meet a notary on a live video call, complete the required identity checks, and sign your document electronically. Your notary completes the notarization online. No drive across town needed.

Is online notarization legal?

Yes. Florida law authorizes remote online notarization by properly registered notaries when the legal requirements are met. ATC Verify onboards Florida-approved Remote Online Notaries. Learn more from the Florida Department of State.

Do I have to be in Florida?

No. Signers and businesses can be in another state or elsewhere in the world. Your Florida notary must be physically in Florida during the notarization. You must complete the required identity checks, and local restrictions and recipient requirements may affect your transaction. See Florida’s location rules.

Can a Florida notary notarize for all 50 states?

Yes, a Florida online notary can serve signers in all 50 states. A lawfully completed Florida notarization can be used across state lines, subject to the receiving state’s rules and the document’s requirements. That does not guarantee every recipient will accept every document electronically. Ask the receiving party before you start. See Florida’s online notarization law.

Can I use my notarized document in another country?

Check with the foreign recipient first. They may require an apostille, authentication, translation, or a different signing process. Online notarization alone does not include those services or guarantee acceptance abroad.

What should I have ready?

Bring your complete document, an acceptable original ID, a payment card, and a device with a camera, microphone, and reliable internet. Choose a quiet, well-lit spot. Have any required witnesses ready, and follow your notary’s instructions about when to sign.

IDs, documents & witnesses

Bring the right things. Skip the surprises.

What IDs can a Florida notary accept?

Common options include a U.S. passport and a driver’s license or identification card issued by a U.S. state or territory. Florida law also lists certain Canadian and Mexican licenses or IDs, U.S. military IDs, veterans health IDs, and immigration IDs.

The ID must meet Florida’s requirements and the online verification process. Have the original ready; a photo or photocopy is not a substitute. Your notary makes the final identity decision. See the complete Florida ID list.

Can I use an expired ID?

Possibly. Florida’s listed IDs must be current or have been issued within the past five years and bear an identifying number. The five years run from the issue date, not the expiration date. An expired ID may still fail online verification, so use a current ID when possible and ask before paying. See Florida’s ID rules.

Can I use a foreign passport?

Florida law generally requires a foreign passport to bear a U.S. immigration stamp. For online notarization, that stamp is not required when the signer is outside the United States. The passport must still satisfy the applicable ID requirements and pass the required checks; not every passport is supported online. See Florida’s foreign-passport rule.

What if my identity check does not pass?

Your notary cannot proceed without satisfactory identity verification. Follow the instructions shown and contact support if you need help with a technical issue. A legally acceptable ID does not guarantee that the online check will succeed. See Florida’s identity requirements.

What documents can be notarized online?

Common examples include affidavits, consent forms, and business agreements. Deeds and powers of attorney may also qualify, depending on their signing, witness, and recipient requirements. Upload a complete document and confirm online notarization is acceptable with the person or organization receiving it.

What about wills, trusts, or estate-planning documents?

Ask your attorney before booking. Wills, certain trusts, advance directives, and powers of attorney can have special signing, witness, or storage requirements. Some circumstances require witnesses to be physically present. Do not assume a standard online session meets every requirement or that ATC Verify supports your specific document. See Florida’s electronic witnessing rules.

Can I bring my own witness?

Yes, if your witness is eligible for the document and your notary approves. You can also request an ATC Verify witness, subject to availability. Remote witnesses under Florida’s electronic witnessing rules must be U.S. or territory residents and physically located there. Some documents need witnesses with you in person. Confirm the requirements in advance. See Florida’s witness rules.

Will my bank, court, title company, or other recipient accept it?

Check with them before starting. Ask whether they accept a Florida remote online notarization, an electronically signed document, and the proposed certificate and witness arrangements. ATC Verify and your notary cannot promise a recipient’s acceptance or choose the right legal document for you.

Pricing & payments

Know your total before you meet your notary.

What does an on-demand notarization cost?

$25 for the first completed notarization, plus $5 for each additional notarization in the same session. Required identity verification is $2.50 per signer, charged separately. Additional signers and requested witnesses may add to your total. See pricing.

What does a business pay?

A business account has no monthly subscription. Use your approved in-house notary for $7 for the first notarization plus $3 for each additional in the same session, or use an ATC Verify notary for $25 plus $5 for each additional. Identity checks and applicable extras are separate. See business options.

What does a notary pay for their own clients?

If you cover the session, it is $7 for the first notarization plus $3 for each additional in the same session. You bill your client separately; ATC Verify does not pay you for that session.

If your client pays through ATC Verify, they pay $25 plus $5 for each additional notarization. You earn $15 plus $2.50 for each additional. Identity checks and applicable extras are separate. See notary pricing.

What about extra signers, witnesses, and ID checks?
  • The session fee includes up to 2 signers; each additional signer is $3.
  • Required identity verification is $2.50 per signer, including the first 2.
  • An ATC Verify witness is $15 each. Bring your own eligible witness for free.
  • Witnesses have no separate paid ID-check fee. Required witness identification still applies.
When will my card be charged?

Required identity verification is charged when that check starts and is nonrefundable, even if the session does not finish. Notarization charges apply to completed notarizations. Review the payer and fees shown before continuing.

Businesses & attorneys

A smoother signing day for your team and clients.

Can my business or law firm use its own notary?

Yes. Your in-house notary must be a Florida-approved Remote Online Notary and complete ATC Verify’s approval process. Your team can use its own approved notary or request an ATC Verify notary. Your business and clients do not need to be based in Florida.

I’m an attorney and a notary. Do I need two accounts?

If you simply want to notarize for your own clients, an approved notary account lets you bring those clients and choose who pays. A business account is useful when your firm needs to organize team members and business sessions. Being an attorney does not replace Florida RON registration or ATC Verify approval.

Who checks the document and legal requirements?

Your business or attorney should confirm the correct document, certificate, witnesses, and recipient requirements before the session. The notary is responsible for the notarial act and may decline when requirements are not met. ATC Verify provides the online platform, not legal advice.

For Florida notaries

Your clients, your responsibilities, and how approval works.

Which notaries can join ATC Verify?

We are only onboarding Florida-approved Remote Online Notaries. You must hold the required active Florida credentials and complete our onboarding and approval process. Creating an account alone does not authorize you to perform sessions. Check your registration through Florida’s approved online notary directory.

Does creating an account give me on-demand queue access?

No. Signing up or receiving account approval does not guarantee on-demand queue access. ATC Verify decides whether and when to activate that access and is not obligated to offer it. Approval to bring your own clients is separate from access to on-demand opportunities. No session volume or earnings are guaranteed.

Can I notarize while traveling outside Florida?

No. As a Florida online notary public, you must be physically in Florida when performing the online notarization, even when your signer is somewhere else. See Florida’s location requirement.

What do on-demand opportunities pay?

For notaries with queue access, general on-demand sessions pay $10 for the first completed notarization plus $2.50 for each additional in the same session. ATC Verify witness opportunities pay $7. Specialty opportunities show their payout before acceptance. Availability is not guaranteed.

Refunds & getting help

Here’s who to contact when something needs attention.

Do you offer refunds?

No. Fees for services provided are nonrefundable, except where required by law. This includes an identity check once it starts, even if verification fails or the session is canceled. Confirm your ID, document, and recipient’s acceptance requirements before paying. See our terms.

What if the notary made a mistake?

Contact the individual notary who completed your session to review and arrange any lawful correction or redo of a genuine notarial error. The notary is responsible for their notarial work; ATC Verify does not make those corrections on their behalf. A correction may require another meeting. Support can help you reach your notary. This does not limit rights or responsibilities required by law.

What if I need different wording or the recipient rejects my document?

A changed document or a recipient’s extra requirements do not automatically mean the notary made an error. Ask the recipient or your attorney what needs to change, then speak with your notary. A new notarization may be needed and may have a new charge.

How do I get help with my account, payment, or session?

Use the headset button on any page to chat with us or leave a ticket, visit Support, or email care@atcverify.com with your session reference and a brief description. Keep full card numbers, ID images, and sensitive document details out of your email. For a notarial correction, start with the notary who performed the act.
